This year my students have engaged with the 100 word challenge through their online blog site, KidBlog. Blogs are a great way to use ICT to engage our students. After working with colleagues to set up the site and associated security measures, KidBlog and other blog programs are now used throughout the Middle and Senior Years at the college
We use the 100 word challenge (an online creative writing challenge for primary and middle years) as a homework task, with proofreading, feedback and online comment-making sessions planned for the end of week.
Students are given a written or visual prompt with which to write 100 words. After posting this on their Blog, other participants around the world, including competiton adjudicators, can critique students' work throughout thr week.
In order for the very popular comment section to work securely, I have supported colleagues to initiate security measures, whereby they can check, edit and/or delete any innappropriate comments before students see them.
Students love the feedback from other students and professionals around the world.
